After two years of wrangling and political blockades Lebanon has already president. The consensus between the two blocs given that increased their differences from the Syrian Civil War is a strategy to preserve the independence and the Lebanese authority in the region.

The policy of the country was mired in traditional religious split that divides Sunnis and Shiites. The choice of Maronite Christian Michel Aoun, a former army commander in the Lebanese Civil War and belonging to block Hezbollah makes it clear that Lebanon wants above all stay strong and united front to conflicts and threats bordering the country.

The consensus has been hampered by the position that each of the blocks had on the Syrian conflict. Shiites, Al-Assad advocates confronted with the Sunnis, very critical of the Syrian government and all its allies. The traditional conflict that divides Muslims, has been powered by the struggle for regional hegemony given between Iran and Saudi Arabia has threatened during 30 months the Lebanese integrity, leaving the country without a president for all this time, and being an actor less in the fight by the power of the zone to which, little by little, is joining Turkey.

But Lebanon has been strengthened in this presidential vacuum. Leaders the different blocs are have advocated unity and restrengthening the country, giving in religions and customs, and leaving a hollow to political realism that governs in the most unstable and bloody scenario of the International Society.

The Lebanese consensus must not be understood as an agreement without else, leaving the government to the candidate who has collected the most votes. In the regional context of the Muslim rivalry, a Sunni bloc leave the government in the hands of a Hezbollah-backed candidate is nothing but an effort to enshrine Lebanon as a more power. Lebanon wants to be an hegemon, wants to hold leadership and wants to be recognized as a stronger state.

In short, the Lebanese strategy is a move in the game of power that has made the Middle East is engulfed in wars and is a nest of terrorists. Lebanon makes clear that, regardless of internal rivalry for power in the country, foreign policy blocks should join forces. Regardless of who governs Syria or power to reach the self-proclaimed champions of-Muslim schisms Saudi Arabia and Iran Lebanon is a strong country that has opted by those who best preserve their independence, away from the course shelter that could have given Saudi Arabia and positioning on the side that, while not responding to a stronger worldwide, maintains strength in Lebanon defends sovereignty in its area of influence.
