LA BARRERA RUSO-CHINA CONTRA TRUMP/ The Russian-Chinese barrier against Trump

Russia and China are protagonists of the new geostrategic relation that has been formed throughout these last two years and that, as more visible element, has given place to the joint celebration of a few big military maneuvers last September 12.

The new military maneuvers were characterized by the use of the new different types of weapons, as well as the Russian capacity demonstrated of mobilizing a reservists’ great quantity, stopping to guess that Moscow has a great number of former military (still in age of fighting) dispersed for all Eurasia. In addition, with these maneuvers, Putin put end to a series of reforms that it has modernized the obsolete armed forces and they have turned the Russian army in the great one and intimidate competitive force, which has been the whole success both in Ukraine and in Syria.

However, the Russian-Chinese cooperation, materialized on the basis of this new strategy, has become concrete over the course of recent years, with some key moments:

  • The commercial exchanges that both countries had last year, amounting to 87,000 million dollars.
  • And mutual support during the escalation of tension that occurred in the Korean peninsula, in which both were lent as mediators to avoid the warlike confrontation, which would have affected American, Korean, Chinese, Russian and Japanese interests.

But, the different hostile actions, as well as the sanctions imposed by the United States on Beijing and Moscow have found a new justification for their collaboration: to face the US threat.

But, the different hostile actions, as well as the sanctions imposed by the United States on Beijing and Moscow have found a new justification for their collaboration: to face the US threat.

Thus, an alliance takes place between countries that, years ago, maintained dissensions with respect to both the borders that were at the end of the period of the USSR, and the different interpretations of Marxism.

Therefore, and as a result of constant US pressure, as well as expanding that capacity (both military and competitive), China could not have found a better ally to fight and try to win Trump’s pulse for world hegemony.

With this last movement, it has established a new game board, that it reminds to the years of the Cold War, but where several main actors intervene. The first of these is the United States, which tries to maintain its hegemony against China (with which it disputes a trade war, in addition to the war in the South China Sea). At the same time, it moves away from its natural ally and its heavy burden, the European Union, which is threatened by nationalism, Brexit, migration and Russian attempts to crack it.

In the other hand, Russia tries to win allies not only in Eastern Europe, but in Asia, and it is proving beneficial, as can be seen, for example, in Syria, where it is the head of peace negotiations. And, finally, we have China, that is trying to resurface as an alternative to the American model, imposing the communism as a new way of life more effective that the liberalism and diminish the international leadership of the United States, which is increasingly questioned by the ups and downs of Trump.

The great difference that there is in difference with the 80’s, apart from the new actors, is that the United States and the URSS were willing to destroy each other for the domination of the world hegemony. Today, the struggle is over who contains whom.
