El pasado domingo las comunidades indígenas de Dakota del Norte pudieron celebrar con orgullo su victoria frente a la empresa Energy Transfer Partners al lograr que el oleoducto que iban a construir en medio de sus tierras sea suspendido por el Cuerpo de Ingenieros del Ejército tras meses de protestas y acampadas frente a las máquinas de construcción de las mismas a la espera de encontrar una nueva ruta por la que trazarlo .
El objetivo de este oleoducto era el de conectar los campos de producción de petróleo de Dakota del Norte con las refinerías del mismo que se encuentran en Illinois, pasando por Dakota del Sur y Iowa. Todas las partes del proyecto están acabadas o casi finalizadas salvo la de Dakota del Norte, que ha encontrado la resistencia de la reserva nativo americana de Standing Rock. Se negaban a la construcción del mismo debido a que el tubo subterráneo pasaría por tierras que consideran ancestrales y sagradas, además de por el lago que bastece de agua a la comunidad y que ante el temor de que pueda producir un fallo y contamine toda la reserva y el agua se han negado a la construcción del mismo en estas condiciones .
Es el mayor éxito que han logrado estas comunidades ya que ha supuesto meses de acampada bajo las duras condiciones del paisaje, pero han visto recompensados sus logros. Aun así hemos de decir que la victoria no es definitiva, pues si bien el gobierno de Obama estaba de acuerdo con esta resolución el presidente entrante Donald Trump ya ha manifestado que está de acuerdo con la construcción del mismo y podría establecer de nuevo que el oleoducto pase por esa zona concreta. Es por ello que hemos de esperar a que tome posesión del cargo para conocer la solución definitiva a este conflicto .
La controversia que ha generado todo esto no es solo por la construcción del oleoducto por estas tierras, sino que va más allá debido a que los nativos americanos no han sido los únicos que se han manifestado, pues se les han unido muchos grupos ambientalistas y veteranos de guerra . Esto responde al boom energético que ha experimentado el país desde el desarrollo del fracking para la obtención de petróleo, que ha obligado a construir más infraestructuras para poder satisfacer la producción. Aun así, como ya mencionábamos al inicio, habrá que esperar a que Trump sea nombrado presidente y decida que hacer, pero en caso de construirlo se podrían dar unas circunstancias muy negativas contra él, ya que pondría a toda la población nativo americana en su contra además de dañar seriamente su modo de vida, que ahora depende casi exclusivamente del casino de la reserva.

Even though we have to say that the victory is not final, because while the Government of Obama was in accordance with this resolution the President incoming Donald Trump already has manifested that is in accordance with the construction of the same and could establish again that the pipeline will pass by that concrete area. Therefore, we must wait to the take office to know the definitive solution to this conflict .
The controversy that has generated all this is not only because of the construction of the pipeline in these lands, but it goes beyond since Native Americans were not the only ones that have been expressed, as many environmentalists and veterans groups of war have joined them . This responds to the energy boom that has experienced the country since the development of the fracking for the obtaining of oil that has obligated to build more infrastructures to satisfy the production.
