PERÚ: REVUELO Y ELECCIONES/ Peru: stir and elections

conteo-rapido-ipsos-Noticia-758982Last Sunday, April 10th, the Peruvian elections were held. Under Peruvian electoral law, these past elections are seen as a first round, because there were not any candidate with more than 50% of the vote. However, the election day and the days leading up to it have brought consequences. It must be analyzed.

Pre- election weeks, Peru has witnessed several demonstrations against reforms that the country had suffered. These wanted to call the people to the polls and make the election day as a hot day too. However, various demonstrations were blinded by the performance of the Peruvian Communist arm «Sendero Luminoso».

Indeed, a convoy carrying election material was attacked on Saturday April 9. This action has claimed the lives of eight soldiers and two civilians, in Santo Domingo de Acobamba; a district that is in effect a state of emergency by the subversive situation that exists in it. «Sendero Luminoso», has already considered terrorist group. With its Marxist-Leninist and Maoist ideology, it appeared in the last regional and municipal elections that were holding in October 2014.

Nevertheless, on Sunday 10th, the election day proceeded in normal practice. At the end of it, as the exit polls suggested, the fujimorism echoed: the candidate of Popular Forces, Keiko Fujimori, dominated the elections. However, the result obtained- 39 % of the vote- has forced the country to undergo a second round. It seems that Fujimori will face Pedro Pablo Kuczynsky.

Although it can say that Veronika Mendoza was left out of the race for the presidency, it should be noted that Frente Amplio has brought good results for a left that had discredited decades, by the shadow of communist terrorism.

So, next June 5th both sides of a strongly polarized country are going to face.
In Peru, although they have been more candidates who have presented, now the real division is between the pro- Fujimori and contrary to it.

Fujimorism is ideologically conservative, and it is showing a liberal trend in the economic spectrum. As personalize thereof as political pragmatism that has served to achieve certain goals, has made that his conservatism is not well received by a large segment of the population. Although it is not left, population does not feel represented with this way of doing politics. This is demonstrated by Pedro Pablo Kuczynsky- PPK- that, in spite of him social Christian ideology and a center-right position, is the representative and manager of the end of the dynasty Fujimori.
