La batalla de Mosul es uno de los mayores acontecimientos en la lucha contra el DAESH. La existencia de DAESH en territorio iraquí está supeditada al control de esta ciudad, la segunda urbe del país. Para comprender la situación actual y establecer hipótesis de futuro válidas, en este análisis se realizará una revisión previa de los diferentes elementos del escenario: actores, entorno operativo y material bélico.

CONCLUSIÓN:
En este escenario se diferencian actores que juegan en dos niveles: Aquellos para los que DAESH y la propia ofensiva son el objetivo (DAESH, Iraq, Hashid Al Watani, Hashid Shaabi) y aquellos para los que tanto DAESH como la ofensiva son herramientas al servicio de un interés de mayor jerarquía (Coalición, Turquía, Kurdos).
Lo más importante de este escenario no es cómo se desarrollen las operaciones, cuánto tarden o cuántos militantes de DAESH o soldados iraquíes perezcan, sino qué ocurrirá cuando el polvo se asiente y Mosul deje de ser el centro de atención.
Por último, no debería descartarse que las milicias chiíes de Hashid Shaabi, aliadas de los gobiernos chiíes, tratasen de cerrar el cerco por el oeste a fin de evitar el traslado de los adláteres del Califato a territorio sirio, independientemente de la voluntad de EEUU.
¿Supondrá esta derrota la salida de DAESH de Iraq? ¿Aumentará la presión sobre los intereses rusos en la región? ¿Qué pasará con los militantes que retornan desilusionados por el fin del sueño califal? ¿Podrán unos kurdos victoriosos ver fortalecidas sus reclamaciones?
In this scenario, the actors are playing on two different levels: those for which DAESH and the offense itself are the main target (DAESH, Iraq, Hashid Al Watani, Hashid Shaabi) and those for which both DAESH and the offensive are tools in the service of a higher interest (Coalition, Turkey, Kurds). The most important of this scenario is not how the operations are carried out, how much time they waste or how many DAESH militants or Iraqi soldiers perish, but what will happen when the dust settles and Mosul stop being the centre of attention.
Finally, it should not be ignored that Hashid Shaabi Shiite militias, allies of the Middle East Shiite governments, could try to encircle DAESH by the West to avoid the transfer of the minions of the Caliphate to Syrian territory, regardless of USA’s will. ¿Will this defeat mean the end of DAESH in Iraq? Will it increase the pressure over Russian interests in the region? What will happen with the militants returning disillusioned by the end of the Caliphate dream? Will a victorious Kurds see strengthened their claims?
